Rudy Fuller


Rudy Fuller is currently the Head Coach of the University of Pennsylvania's men's soccer program. Penn competes in the prestigious Ivy League, annually rated as one of the most competitive leagues in the country.

In his thirteen seasons at Penn, Fuller has completely transformed the program into one of the elite soccer programs in the country. Under his leadership, Penn has steadily improved and experienced tremendous success in recent years. This past season, he led the Quakers to a 13-6-0 record, a second place finish in the Ivy League, a #14 ranking in the National Top 25, an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, and its eleventh consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award.  The team included five former Elite 300 All-Star selections.  It was the second NCAA Tournament appearance in the past three years for the Quakers.  In 2008, Penn captured its seventh Ivy League championship with an 11-2-4 record.  The team earned the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and captured the 2008 Philadelphia Soccer SIx Championship.  During the 2006 season, Fuller's Penn squad compiled a 9-4-2 record, finished second in the Ivy League with a 5-1-1 record, and just missed out on another at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The team, which included three former Elite 300 All-Stars, was ranked nationally for the fifth straight season. Fuller, who has been named the the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Coach of the Year in four of the past six seasons, led the 2005 squad to a 9-6-1 record, a national ranking of 18th in the polls, and the 2005 Philadelphia Soccer Seven Championship. In 2004, the team was ranked as high as 14th in the NSCAA National Top 25 during the season matching the highest ranking ever in Fuller's tenure. The 2002 squad finished with a 12-4-1 record and captured its first Ivy League Championship in 22 years, earned its first NCAA Tournament bid in 25 years, and won its first NCAA tournament win in 29 years. Penn was ranked as high as 14th in the NSCAA poll during the 2002 season as well and spent much of that year in the nation's top 25. Penn's goalkeeper and former Elite 300 Soccer Academy All-Star, Matthew Haefner, was named the Ivy League Player of the Year and All-American becoming Penn's first ever Ivy League Player of the Year and Penn's first All-American since 1984. Following the season, Fuller was named the 2002 Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year by the NSCAA and the 2002 Men's Soccer Coach of the Year by the SEPSCA.

Fuller is currently an assistant coach with the U.S. U-15 National Team and is former member of the Region I Olympic Development (ODP) Staff, as well as both the Maryland ODP Staff and the Eastern Pennsylvania ODP Staff. In 2002, Fuller helped lead the E. Pa 1984 Boys ODP team to the National Championship and his E. Pa. 1987 Boys ODP team was a Region I ODP Championship finalist. Fuller led the past six ODP teams he has coached to the Region I finals and has captured four titles. Prior to joining the Region I and Eastern Pennsylvania staffs, Fuller had been a part of the Maryland ODP for 13 years, four as a player and nine as a coach. In addition, Fuller coached the Bethesda (Md.) Soccer Club's 1981 Alliance team. The Alliance was the 1997 Maryland State Champions in the Under-16 age group and advanced to the Snickers Region I semifinals.

Fuller has served on the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Committee and chaired the Middle Atlantic Regional Advisory Committee. He also served on the NSCAA/Adidas College Ranking Committee for the Mid-Atlantic Region.
