Maryland Soccer assistant coaches Michael Dello-Russo and Brian Rowland have joined the Elite 300 staff for 2012. As a player at Maryland, Dello-Russo was a two-time captain and led the team to the National Championship in 2005. After finishing at Maryland, Dello-Russo went on to play for FC Dallas of Major League Soccer. He returned to College Park as an assistant coach in 2010 and has helped lead the Terps to an Elite 8 appearance and a Sweet Sixteen finish in his two seasons on the sideline. Dello-Russo's experience as a player and coach will be a tremendous asset to the campers in attendance this summer who aspire to play at the highest level in college. Rowland was a two-time captain and four-year starter in goal for the nationally-ranked UMBC Retreivers. Prior to arriving at UMBC, Rowland was a member of the Canadian U-20 National team and landed trials at Manchester United and Fulham. After his career finished at UMBC, Rowland played professionally in the USL and the MISL before returning to UMBC as an assistant coach. In his two years at Maryland, Rowland helped develop All-American and U-20 National team goalkeeper Zach McMath. McMath went on to be drafted by the Philadelphia Union and remains with the MLS club today. Rowland will assist current Philadelphia Union assistant coach Rob Vartughian with the goalkeeper training at camp this summer. |
